A few pictures of the progress

Thank You

Thanks to all our loyal supporters who came to the Bluebell Railway Preservation Society who attended the AGM, and spent or donated with Project 27.  The figure taken on the night was up on last year and will go a little way to replenishing the coffers following the manufacture of the new cylinders and frames.

Progress Pictures

Piston Rods

The two piston rods at the front with other items in the primer painting area

The tapered ends which locate in the crossheads
this shows that the two rods are of different diameter, we know not why.
The rods will be metal sprayed and resized by turning/grinding to the correct profile before they are reassembled with the pistons and installed into the cylinder block.

Crossheads

Then crossheads on the bench having been stripped down and cleaned

Crossheads on the bench. Note the pre 1974 trimmings that were still in the oil pots!

The crossheads awaiting dimension checking to make sure the wear is not excessive.
The crossheads have been stripped down to enable a thorough clean and wear check to be carried out. Once the checks have been carried out it they will be reassembled and got ready for refitting to the piston rod/piston assembly.

Piston Covers

The rear cylinder covers

The front cylinder covers
The front and rear cylinder covers have been thoroughly cleaned and checked to make sure they are fit for further use.  they have then been given a coat of bonder primer to preserve them whilst waiting to be returned to the loco once the cylinders have been installed between the frames.

The Frames

The rear buffer beam attached using blue temporary bolts ready for hole reaming and riveting

Additionally the front of the drag box has similarly been temporarily bolted in

The forge ready for the next riveting session!
The frames continue to be built up from the flat pack kit of parts!  note on the middle picture the list of rivet sizes  and marks as to which rivets go where.  This riveting will be taking place in the very near future.

Funding

All of the work we carry out on the locomotive is supported by The Fenchurch Fund and carried out by the Little Loco Group.  As the Loco Director's budget is taken up, rightly, with the locomotives that pull our trains, every penny we spend on the locomotive has to de funded by ourselves, resulting in many sales stands and donation opportunities throughout the year.  If you would like to help us restore No.27 and continue our work on other small locos, please donate as much as you are able.

If you are able to help, please donate only as much as you can afford.
To donate on line, please go to our BT MyDonate page:

or use the QR code below.

PLEASE NOTE
The BT My Donate page will be removed by BT on the 30th June.  However, we are working closely with the Bluebell Railway Trust who are currently setting up a new donations page. Details will be posted as soon as we have them.
If you would like to make a regular donation, please ask for a Standing Order form by email to the address below.
Please also use this address for enquiries and offers of physical help.thefenchurchfund@gmail.com

This Project is entirely self funded and relies on your donations and sales stand purchases for the work to continue
